Staff | Concord Monitor For the first time in 36 years, the Merrimack Valley Paddlers have been forced to change their traditional New Year’s Day kayaking event on the Winnipesaukee River, due to ice conditions on the lower part of the river. Thanks to the efforts and expertise of Marty Parichand, owner of the Outdoor New England store in Franklin, and Ken Norton of the MVP, and the State of New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, there will be a water release to increase river water flow.
